1. Written documentation hosted on an evolving wiki that provides guidelines on fast data transfer - a sort of "consumer reports" piece on what tools to use depending on file sizes, numbers of files, frequency, and user ability.
2. A set of large collection transfer tests and a final report.
3. A jointly published CDL/SDSC document, probably based on the wiki, on best practices and situation-based recommendations for institutions embarking on large data transfer in the context of preservation. Situations should include NDIIPP collection transfer, periodic replication, transfer of mass book digitization content. The audience should include NDIIPP grant funded projects, UC campuses and affiliated institutions (museums, institutes, etc.).
4. (optional) Creation of easy-to-use tools (or wrappers).
5. (optional) Plan and organize a workshop bringing together stakeholders in big storage and fast transfer. |
